Hinton, Alberta, Canada has a population near 10,000, and is 270 km west of Edmonton and 80 km east of Jasper. It is a short 15-minute drive to Jasper National Park boundary and about 3 hours from the world famous West Edmonton Mall. The Town, incorporated in 1956, has developed over the last five decades with the establishment of a pulp mill in the 50's and modern coal mines in the 70's and 80's. The mill is one of the most up-to-date and profitable pulp mills in the country, having undergone expansion and modernization over the last few years. Hinton has developed in two separate areas, about 5 km apart, known to residents as the Hill and the Valley - separated by the pulp mill. This geographical dispersion is accounted for by the fact that Hinton actually started out as two communities - Drinnan and Hinton. With the mountains next door the opportunities for camping, hiking, downhill skiing, fishing, and hunting are numerous.
