Chilliwack is a city ripe with history. It has been said that approximately five to ten thousand years ago, 30,000 or soSto:lo (people of the river) natives came and inhabitted the land. Then, in 1857 gold was found in the region and approximately 30,000 gold miners trekked through the region and eventually set up farms. Here, Millar’s Landing, Sumas Landing and Chilliwack Landing were formed creating the 3rd oldest community in British Columbia. Today Chilliwack is formed largely in part of agricultural farms. The other main sources of income include manufacturing and tourism. Chilliwack’s mild climate provides ample time for outdoor recreational activities. In the area, you can find everything from fishing, to golfing, hiking, as well as year round white water rafting. Cultis Lake, a popular camping and swimming destination lies just 11km to the south of Chilliwack off of Highway 1.
