100 Mile House was so aptly named as it is located 100 miles from Lillooet which was ground 0 during the gold rush. 100 Mile house became what was then known as a Supply Stop, where the Gold Seekers could stop to freshen their supplies as they continued on the path in the hunt for gold. As the gold rush subsided, the Gold Seekers then opted to settle in these surrounding areas and this is how the town was formed. Today, the District of 100 Mile House, which is situated on Highway 97 has a population of just over 20,000 residents. As a thriving community, 100 Mile House continues to provide and important service to the Southern Cariboo. The town has many amenities to offer someone wish to move to or visit the District such as banking, gas bars, shopping centres, postal outlets, pharmacies and a hospital.
