The first inhabitants of the area were the Coast Salish People. They were then followed by European Explorers who came to the area following the Hudson’s Bay Co. After that came the Gold Rush and all of the prospectors that came with ubiquitous era. In 1868 two brothers, Thomas and William Ladner came to settle on 160 of fertile land in the area. Thus began the thriving agricultural and fishing area on the south bank at the mouth of the Fraser River. Today, Delta is a thriving community consisting of Ladner, North Delta and Tsawwassen with a population of just over 100,000 residents. It is also home to the 10,000 acre Burns Bog which is home to over 200 species of migratory birds which use the land for resting, staging and breeding. Delta is also home to the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal which has routes from Tsawwassen to Victoria, Nanaimo and the Gulf Islands.
